IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN ANY OF THESE OF THESE ABOVE COUNTIES, a directory of election authorities in all jurisdictions can be found here: [ELECTION AUTHORITY DIRECTORY]
Keep in mind that, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED TO VOTE-BY-MAIL, AND YOU WANT TO VOTE IN-PERSON ABSENTEE, YOU WILL NEED TO CANCEL YOUR BALLOT REQUEST BEFORE GOING TO VOTE IN-PERSON. Contact your your jurisdiction's election authority to cancel your ballot if you want to vote in-person.
There is only one location for in-person voting during at this point (generally speaking it is your Clerk/Election Commissioner's office during business hours), but, starting in October (start dates vary by jurisdiction), there will be expanded early voting in many jurisdictions (smaller counties may only have one location), and early voting available on weekends (both Saturdays and Sundays).
For more details, check out this link:
If you have registered to vote-by-mail, once you have received your ballot, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, fill it out properly, and then DROP IT OFF AT A DROP-BOX (if your jurisdiction has one), or, if your jurisdiction doesn't have one, you should still hand-deliver your ballot to your jurisdiction's Election Authority in order to 100% guarantee that it will arrive on time. Ballots need to be returned by 7:00pm on Election Day, though try to get your ballot in as soon as possible. [DROP-BOX]
Returning your ballot is fairly straightforward. Either put it in a drop-box or drop it off at your Election Authority's office. Most drop-boxes are exterior, 24/7 drop-boxes, some are interior, time-limited drop-boxes.
If your ballot has been rejected due to a signature mismatch, there is a cure process available, that allows you to correct your signature. It is available up to two weeks after Election Day (expires Tuesday, November 17).
If you are confined to your home, you may have somebody else drop off or hand-deliver your ballot for you. If you are hand-delivering somebody else's ballot, there is what is called an "Affidavit of Hand-Delivery" included with each ballot, that you will need to sign before dropping it off. AS A GENERAL RULE, DO NOT GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO ANYBODY THAT YOU DO NOT FULLY TRUST.

2020.09.26 00:35 joekandy Gaming PC for $1500

>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**

I'm looking to mostly game with this PC, but I'd also would like it to have the functionality of being able to do multiple things at once, because I'd like to run dual-monitors so I can do things like watching streams, videos, etc. while gaming. I already have an older monitor that I would use as for the second so that does not need be included in the build price. I'm also toying with the idea of streaming, but I don't want that to adversely affect the price of the build if it will as it's not a priority.

Games I play: WoW is my main game and the main reason I'm upgrading my PC with the Shadowland expansion coming out next month (I do high end raiding in WoW if you know what that is and what it entails on a PC). I would ideally like to run it on max settings or close to max if possible. Other games include: Apex Legends, GTA IV, and CoD: Warzone.

>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**

About $1500 including a monitor. (Probably willing to go a bit higher, but I honestly don't know enough about parts and PCs so I figured this was a good number.

>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**

I'm hoping to start in a week.

>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**

Tower, OS, Monitor, Speakers (I'd like a set that makes it easy to transition from sound thru speakers to sound thru a headset. My current setup is pretty clunky and I've basically just resorted to a headset to avoid the hassle)

>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**

I'm located in the US in WI. There's two Microcenters that are about an hour and a half away that, if the price is right, I'd be willing to travel to in IL.

>**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**

Monitor that I'm hoping to use a secondary monitor: ASUS VS248H-P 24"
Keyboard: Corsair K70 LUX

>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**

I'd definitely love to have it be an option. I don't really know what I'm doing so I'm a little hesitant to. So in short yes I'd like to but I also don't wanna mess things up xD

>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**

I'd really like to utilize a good SSD for gaming specifically.

>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

I'd like there to be a window on the side and if possible I'd like to go with a theme of white/green (Maybe white being the case and green being some lighting? I'm open to ideas and these certainly aren't dealbreakers)

>**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**

Yes, I have no preference.

>**Extra info or particulars:**
- The new nvidia GPUs look cool but I honestly don't even know if they are necessary for what I'm looking for sooooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
EDIT: Also this is my second time posting this so fingers crossed on a response this time.

2020.09.22 22:30 Alprovan Every Vote is Going to Count In Order to Send Trump Home, or to Prison, Whichever Comes First. Your Vote is Important!

Every vote counts this election, even if you live in a red state, as I do.
If Joe Biden is elected and if at least four seats are flipped to the Democrats, the repairs to this nation and it’s people can begin.
Mail-in voting is the key to turning out more votes, but it is going to take planning on behalf of everyone to get those ballots in on time. If you are interested in voting by mail, in most states, you will have to request ballots be mailed to you. Requesting mail ballots information can be found by visiting your local County election website.
I live in northwest Georgia. I have voted by mail for years, as I am disabled, and because I am disabled, I only have to request one time to have every relative ballot sent to me for an entire election year, including primary, runoff, special, and final election ballots. Otherwise, I would have to request each ballot event separately.
Georgia amazingly, despite it’s love and devotion by it’s leaders to Trump, has decided to allow any and all registered voters to vote by mail, with no excuses demanded, despite being a red state and governed by a former Secretary of State who did everything he could to fix an election that he did win, barely.
So, you can download a ballot request in Georgia up to 180 days before an electoral date. The ballot request must be faxed or mailed to the county elections office. No fax machine? No problem. I have never failed to receive a ballot requested.
Ballots in my county are mailed out quite early and I make sure to mail it back in almost as fast as I get them. Unfortunately, in Georgia, the voter must affix the return postage for the ballot and they are very picky about following every instruction, including putting the ballot in a special envelope inside the return envelope, etc. - and signing a statement, blah blah blah. No postage, if required, rejected. No signature for comparison? Rejected. sure to follow those directions, to make your vote count!
Now...what is it looking like, pertaining to the states that are going to allow voting by mail?
Here’s a quick rundown;
If you live in the following FIVE states, you likely are very familiar with mail-in voting, because ballots are automatically mailed to every registered voters;
Thus, the list has grown to nine states that will automatically send out ballots to every registered voter;
These NINE states (and DC) will automatically send out mail-in ballot REQUESTS to every registered voter;
In the following TWENTY-FIVE states, you may, all by your lonesome, request an application for an absentee ballot, citing the Covid-19 virus, or it may be that the rules have been relaxed so that no reason for requesting a ballot is required;
And finally, and unfortunately, if you reside in the following states, Covid-19 is not a valid reason for requesting an absentee ballot, thus forcing their residents to vote in person, unless something changes VERY soon;
I cannot imagine why New York is on that last list. That is a blue state.
But looky here – at least seventeen red states are opening the doors for mail-in voting. It doesn’t come without a little extra effort on the part of the voter, but it can be done. That’s at least a little progress, isn’t it?
Real progress will come whenever we can get on our computers or phones and securely log onto a voting website, satisfactorily identify ourselves, and cast our votes. That can be done easily and with present day technology. How do I know it? I recently renewed my driver’s license and my auto registrations online. My identity was easy to verify and it was required for both.

2020.09.19 20:06 napqueen2020 Grandma Shower

Am I overreacting?

Earlier this week my MIL’s coworkers surprised her with a grandma shower. I anticipated this, but it still irks me because we live in different states very far apart, so what is supposed to happen with those gifts? Here is some background on my ILs:DH is an only child. Before we got engaged, she or my FIL would make comments to their family members like, “I don’t care if they get married, I just want grandchildren!” And my FIL works for a church. And they didn’t say this to us directly, other family members relayed this to us.

During my GMIL’s funeral, my FIL was giving a speech about his mother and was talking about all the memories my DH had with his grandparents growing up and then my FIL says during his eulogy, “ever since my son was in 4th grade I couldn’t wait to be a grandparent!” In front of all his family that is grieving and I’m just sitting there like, “what?”

DH and I got a house and they came to visit and we had a housewarming party with my family members as well. Unbeknownst to me at the time, my MIL asked a cousin of mine if we’ve made any mention to her of having kids soon? My cousin was taken aback and didn’t know how to answer because she knew that’s not really anyone’s business but ours.

FF to DH and I finally deciding we’re ready to have kids. Well, we had fertility issues so it took two years. As we were going through the process I realized we hadn’t told my IL’s. I leave most of the communication of important stuff between DH and them. So I brought it up and asked him as the procedure was approaching, “should we tell them?” And he responded “no.” Not unless we had a successful procedure and we reached a point of the pregnancy we were comfortable telling them. And we talked it out and realized that they had been putting so much pressure on us for years and what if we spoke too soon during the procedure and it didn’t happen, would that just upset them?Luckily, the procedure was successful and the pregnancy is moving along. We told them around 8 weeks over the phone (because we live in diff states) and as you can imagine they were ecstatic. We did tell them how we had to go through IVF to be able to conceive and they just said “ok.” and it was probably too much of me to expect them to get that they weren’t told about this prior because of all the pressure they put on us. We also told them to keep it to themselves because we wanted to wait til I was in 2nd trimester to announce to everyone else. And they actually did keep it to themselves. When we finally started telling other family members, especially the ones on DH’s side, they all said, “Congratulations, oh DH, you’re parents must be over the moon!” Like, every single relative. And that’s when my cousin told me the story about my MIL asking if we had talked to her about when we wanted to have kids.

The following day we announce on social media and my MIL shares the post saying “best news ever I’m gonna be a grandma” not congratulations to her son and DIL. No, she was finally reaching “grandma status” and that’s what matters. And the comments on the post from people I’ve never met just drove in the fact that she’s told so many people in her life she can’t wait to be a grandma, because many of them commented how “they knew she was waiting a long time for this.”

So shortly after the social media announcement she’s told all her coworkers and she texts me “ok, the party has already started! I’ve got a coworker asking about nursery colors, are you there yet?” DH and I don’t know this coworker or any coworker. I just responded “we’re keeping it simple with x,y,z colors” and she said “got it.” Then, she gives us a heads up that a co-workers MIL is knitting a blanket for our future kid. Again, we’ve never met these people and now some stranger is sending a blanket? At this point I vented to DH about it. I felt like this was getting a little out of hand and there were things that I wanted he and I to plan together for our child, not others. He said he understood me. And after that things quieted down on the ILs end for a while. I asked him if he said something about this over-excitement to his parents and he said no, but I’m thinking he did.

Then, Mother’s Day came around. I know people have different opinions about pregnant people celebrating the holiday, but I personally felt that since I was carrying, caring, and taking precautions for the baby growing inside me, that the holiday counted for me this year. We call the IL’s to wish her a happy MD and she doesn’t say anything to me. At some point my FIL says “Happy first Mother’s Day, OP!” And my MIL just said “oh, yeah...” and I was just thinking in my head, “you’ve already claimed grandma status but it didn’t occur to you that me, the one currently carrying the child, might already consider herself a mom?”

Then, the ILs say they have a retirement timeframe in mind and they’re going to move closer to us next year. This wasn’t a huge shock to us, they’d been dropping hints. I do think it will be a huge adjustment for DH and I because he hasn’t lived in the same state as them for over a decade, and I never have. They’ve also been asking when they can come visit. They say they understand it may be a while with the pandemic going on, but I get a feeling they’re really anxious to come ASAP. We haven’t told them a date we’re comfortable with yet and I feel like they’re getting antsy.

So now FF to earlier this week when she texts us some photos saying her coworkers surprised her with a grandma shower. I honestly do believe that the coworkers were just being nice and god knows how long they’ve heard her talking about wanting to become a grandma. I just don’t understand the point of these types of events. Especially in this case because it’s going to be a while until they’re even in our physical proximity to be around our kid. So why did they get gifts for him? She didn’t mention whether she plans to mail them to us or keep them herself. DH responded “that’s nice of them.” And I just didn’t respond.

I just feel like once I became a serious GF to their son, they only saw me as an incubator for their future grandchild. And I’m more than that. Both DH and I are successful people in our respective businesses, we don’t cause any trouble. I don’t like being reduced to my reproductive organs. So, am I overreacting?

2020.09.18 06:53 Elyagodoodle My thoughts on Call of Pripyat (sort of a review but not)

TLDR at bottom in the form of a conclusion of this review and overall review of the individual games against each other (this post is long, its broken up to disguise the fact that it's long, but it's a damn long post).
I recently replayed Call of Pripyat for the millionth time, the last of the great stalker trilogy, and *very debatably* the best stalker game (I'm not saying it is, just that its in close competition with the other games because of how good it is). But where to start with a review of CoP. The best place would be something that all the games are known for, the bugs and instability of the X-ray engine.
Stability and Bugs
Generally the stalker series is known for its jankiness. It's ragdolls and loud object collision (whenever a burer tries to throw a barrel at you, and it collides with a wall repeatedly, it sounds like a fucking train is passing from two feet away) and it's crashing and freezing and buggy missions. However... Call of Pripyat is the least buggy game in the series BY FAR. No more bullshittery with missions not completing or starting, no more random crap stopping your game in its tracks, and no more insane crashing, kinda. Because ironically even though this game had less bugs than the rest, it crashed more for me, now that being said half the crashes occurred from one specific situation where my adjustable zoom would wack out and it would crash the game, so relatively, its more stable, and this is a huge step up, because like bad UI design or bad menu layouts or stuff like that, if they're there, its noticeable, and it detracts from a game in every way, even if it only effects one thing, but if they aren't there, it's less easily noticeable, but you need to focus on it, because in a day and age when companies pump out games after one year and they are bug ridden on day one with horrible game breaking lag, it's good to look at stable games and congratulate them on not fucking it up. But this game has other problems they traded for a stable game, like the difficulty of the game.
Difficulty and overall gameplay - Intro
Another thing stalker is known for doing is having pseudo-realistic difficulties and in the case of clear sky slightly less realistic difficulty where everyone carries a 20 pack of grenades and is also an mlb pitcher. But a perfect balance of difficulty is needed (similar to SHoC's mid game), and after clear sky's disastrous difficulty spikes and grenade aimbots and unfair one shots, I think GSC reeled it in and the result is a... slightly disappointingly easy game for a number of reasons.
Difficulty - Economy and Monetary exploits. - trust me, it needs its own section
In a game with a money or trading system, economy is essential to a game's difficulty being successful, and with the previous games they struck a good balance where the player would receive the big boi gear as they got deeper into the game, and money farming was ineffective in getting enough cash to purchase good gear. Also the good gear was only sold when the player got into better standing with people and better gear was slowly opened to the player as they proved themselves to the traders around them in the late game. But in cop, they royally fucked up, and I don't mean it in a way like it's slightly bad and good gear is unlocked a little to early, NO, to put into perspective, by my 4th hour of playing SHoC, I got an AK, a good pistol, and a stalker suit, pretty standard right? By my 4th hour in this playthrough of CoP, I had an Exo, an FT2000M, and a black kite pistol. WTF, you might be asking? What kinda super drugs are you on, what kinda mods do you got installed, what difficulty are you playing, and to that I answer in order of the questions, just cocaine LSD and some zone brewed "potions", no gameplay mods just absolute textures, and I'm playing on the chad difficulty, master. The secret lies in two ingredients that work together to break the economy, artifacts, and sleeping, with these two properties on your side, you can garner unlimited power and rubles. You see, if you sleep for two weeks, (after sleeping for these two weeks just pop one bread or sausage and you've filled up for the whole week... good game design GSC) and then go to all the anomaly fields in Zaton, you will acquire around 80k rubles worth of artifacts, sell them, repeat, and by the first month of in game time (or as I previously stated around 2-4 hours of irl time), you can order an FT from nimble, an exo from nimble, and a nice pistol or smg for shredding dogs. The reason this works is because emissions cause artifacts to form and by sleeping through a bunch of emissions, the anomalies will have made a treasure trove of artifacts. You couldn't do this in previous games because
A. The anomaly fields were not marked and were not as heavily concentrated as in CoP
B. You couldn't sleep to pass emissions rapidly
C. Damage wasn't as low as it is in CoP, meaning you would get sparked out instantly for one mistake.
By now you've realized the problem, money is worth too much for its relative IRL Time spent - amount acquired ratio, and because AI isn't good at artifact hunting and they'll basically never acquire anything its left all to you. Now some people out there will go, "so what, don't use this strategy if you don't like it, loot corpses for shitty guns like us chads out here" and to that I say, even if I can ignore an op strat, doesn't negate its existence and its effect on the game, when I can acquire top tier loot on my first day of playing IRL, we have a problem. A side effect of this "exploit" is that it renders any form of looting after a firefight completely worthless, because why do inventory management and weight - benefit analysis if you can just spend 10 minutes farming artifacts for a 100x better reward, it also trivializes many missions, why hunt a chimera in the dark if all you get is rubles and cheaper prices, I can just farm a little longer to make up for the money I lose by not having the cheaper prices, you see the problem now right? It affects everything and it just puts a stain on so many parts of this game, even more than what I already mentioned, the economy is broken, it affects parts of this game you wouldn't expect to be affected, and it's a damn shame.
Game Difficulty - Damage, balance, difficulty of specific sequences and enemies
Even if the economy is bad, and you can get top shelf gear in the first section, if the game is brutal, with pseudo-realistic damage values, it shouldn't matter right, well, yeah, but that isn't the case with this game, this isn't another clear sky where grenades rain from the heavens and bullets make you bleed like a chicken with its head chopped off, it's more reined in, lesser damage values, less bullet sponges relatively, and if the economy worked, this game would have had the best damage values for this type of game, probably rivaling the gameplay of SHoC. But for this section lets assume you aren't exploiting or farming artifacts or trying for money, and you get everything as you progress through the game at a steady rate. Then the balance works quite well, enemies in zaton early on carry at best IL 86's or chasers or aks, which works for lower level combat, then as you do missions for the loners or bandits, those respective factions get stronger, and late game stalkers can be seen with at best vintorez's and sgi's and spas 12s. This works, and it makes Zaton more fun to come back to later, instead of just as a place to get artifacts easy or talk to cardan about item 62. This wasn't the case in SHoC or CS, cordon would stay the same and coming back to talk to sidor was a chore instead of anything fun at all. Many people have fond memories of SHoC and getting scared by bloodsuckers and mutants in X-16 but as someone who recently replayed it after a while, I have distinct memories of running across cordon and garbage to fulfill quests that expired in a day and gave me little to no reason to complete them. Something I believe they fixed in CoP but I'm getting of topic, anyway difficulty rightfully scales into the endgame, and in some of the more difficult sequences you are pitted against many skilled monolith fighters with powerful snipers and Tunders/As vals. This gives replay value to the game and it makes staying in the zone a bit more fun, as you can engage tough enemies in unscripted encounters more often.
But as we all know, stalker has two enemy types, stalkers, and mutants, and the mutants in the game are super difficult, and make up for the faults in the difficulty of firefights. New additions include the burer, a higher difficulty poltergeist capable of not only throwing crap at you, but also hitting you with powerful psy blasts, pulling your gun out of your hands, and throwing up psy shields to block your bullets, they also throw back grenades but whatever I guess. Yeah if that sounded hard it is, burers just combined too many of the abilities of other mutants, the kinetic abilities of the poltergeist, the psy blasts of controllers, and the relatively high resistance to bullets of mutants like the pseudogiant (stemming from their ability to block damage, their actual health is more like a controller's health). Another mutant is the Chimera, a terrifying acrobatic melee based mutant capable of leaping a huge distance to attack the player, shredding health and dropping players in close to two leaps. They act much like snorks but with increased damage, maneuverability, and a lot more health, requiring the player to use snipers or shotguns or even rpgs/grenades to kill them (rpg is my personal favorite, the damage was just perfect). Each mutant tells its own story with its appearance and much can be assumed about them before the disaster, its interesting and the new mutant additions both spice up the gameplay and difficulty, and also add to the extensive stalker lore. The returning mutants don't do anything new but stalker never messes up the scary moments caused by bloodsuckers and controllers and the like, but obviously its expected from a stalker game. Although something I noticed is that snorks seem to be really op in this game? Like they can jump miles with incredible accuracy, good health, and they do lots of damage, I had more trouble with snorks in this game than with chimeras, probably cause I only saw three of the latter, and only fought two of them.
Level Design
I didn't know of a section to put this so its on its own. But rightfully so, as SHoC and CS both used the same maps and map design (I'm aware CS added more maps, but they are very similar to the maps in SHoC in terms of design) they weren't as unique in that regard. But CoP mixed up the formula for maps, whereas the previous games had much more linear maps, with very few open maps, like army warehouses and great swamps being the outliers in my opinion. But was this change good? Did it positively affect immersion and gameplay, my answer to this is a resounding yes. I've always been fascinated with open worlds, they can depict a location in its entirety, and really immerse me in a world, so it disappoints me when I run into fences or forced barriers in a game about a real life location. That's also why I'm so excited for stalker 2, where they say there's no greyed out areas or blurred areas and everything goes into everything else directly without loading screens. So in CoP they opened up the map, and from the way the locations were set up, its very rare for the player to lose their immersion from running into a fence. However, the immersion is sometimes broken in locations like the cement factory, from which you can literally see pripyat over a fence, and could totally walk to, but, its the end of the boundary. But most locations in the map were in open places that didn't make me think, hmm, why can't I leave this place, compare this to a place like cordon, where every bit of it is locked off by hills and fences, it makes me feel like I'm in a game, or a shitty call of duty level, not a world, not a zone.
Side Missions and their drastic improvements
So something I always found annoying about the previous games was that the missions were boring to play, they were something that got you money that was it, you go to sidor, he tells you words, and then you go do what the mission asks, no story, and if there was one, it was basic, the dogs bother the local stalker? kill them! This guy is scamming harder than the great scammorovich? cant be having that, kill him! And fun as the shooting is in these games you need either a reason or something of interest to immerse you in the game and give you the motivation to blast people with shotguns and aks. This was also what annoyed me about the faction war system in CS and got me really uninterested in it, you did nothing besides shoot enemies and wait for your friendly troops to move their fat asses to the point you were defending, it wasn't very fun or interesting, and its the exact opposite in CoP, no mission (besides maybe the small missions at the waster processing plant and the one in substation workshops where you give the guy food for the tools) has a bad and not engaging story, and even if they did, this game offers something more, connectivity between the missions, take vano's mission for example, simple, talk to the bandit leader and negotiate (or blast) your way out of the checkpoint, then go back to vano and get his thanks. So you might be saying, that's not a good or engaging story, vano's not even funny, and yeah, I guess you're right, but think of it like this, his mission isn't explained in one dialogue box, it does something more than just shoot a guy or get a weapon or item, it isn't repeatable and it contributes to an achievement (which adds really good positive modifiers to your character) and it ties into another mission, where you can recruit vano to go with you to pripyat. That's what's so awesome about these missions, the heart of the oasis mission contributes to good standing with the scientists (which gives a good ending and an achievement when you have good enough standing) who will then let you take a closed respiratory suit for sokolov to go with you to pripyat as well. Almost every mission in this game has purpose and structure as a mission, you aren't running someone busy work for no reason, you're doing something that will both help in the long run and in the short term, that's good side mission design, tying back into the main missions and main content. However, that doesn't mean they should remove radiant quests, beard does offer a rudimentary artifact collection quest that's radiant, but besides that there's no reliable way to acquire money through missions, and as much as I jerk off missions with stories and tie ins to the main questline, radiant quests do add a way to make money through a reliable way that isn't hunting down every other stalker, but then again, hunting down every other stalker is pretty easy with how the faction system is.
Factions are a series staple for stalker, they provide side missions, different ideologies, gameplay changes, and were, and still are, great ideas. So how are they handled in this game, well, pretty poorly if I'm honest. Now obviously we can't have the Major join a faction (he more sides with them, he doesn't hardcore become a member of one of them), he's there on a mission, not to help out with the squabbles of the zone. But it seems stupid that he would ever join freedom as they hate the military and are "anarchists and bandits." I dunno, its a nitpick but no matter what he's a military man, not a freedom loving anarchist, he'd probably actually join Duty or stay out of the conflict. But that's just from a story and lore standpoint, what about from a gameplay standpoint? Well, this is another thing that hinders the difficulty, in every stalker game there are always those that are hostile, in this game obviously you can't be hostile to the military, but there still has to be plenty of shooting hostile faction members, if I side with duty obviously I should be out there blasting freedomers and they should be blasting me, but sadly, the faction system is weird. Do you remember shooting a bandit in CS as a pure kneejerk reaction from all those times you shot them in SHoC? I do, and I also remember that for the rest of the game the bandits (rightfully) hated me and I could not join them later. That sucked, but I liked that I had something to shoot at for the rest of the game, but do you want to know something cool? If I shoot a bandit squad, the whole faction doesn't come after me, EVER, and no matter how many of a neutral faction you shoot they will not engage you on sight and be angry all the time, it sucks and really dumbs down what I consider to be a series staple the choice between having the benefits of siding with a faction and having to sometimes fight off enemy faction members, it also makes the game, you guessed it, incredibly easy, and that's just another thing to add to the already large list of things that make this game easy. But there's more faction trouble, even if we say that shooting neutral guys doesn't matter to overall standing, what if you do missions that take down duty or freedom, surely then they'll hate you right? Well yes, but actually not always, you see in the list of achievements one of them is diplomat, that causes factions to respect you more and it raises your friendship with them just enough that even if you get to be a "friend of (your faction name here)," the opposite faction is still neutral to you, so remember back in this post when I said that enemies would stay challenging so that it made sense to return and fight enemies in the previous zones? well disregard that now, because if you get diplomat, you don't have much incentive to return to previous parts of the zone because the enemies there (usually mercs as in the case of Zaton) have been killed or dealt with in other ways, and now the factions just won't mess with you, so the only threats are mutants, which are usually just fleshes and dogs which aren't fun to fight or hard to fight. Again, they made a game that has so many advantages to free play modes, you can immerse yourself by hunting for artifacts, the shooting mechanics are awesome, the graphics and most importantly the sound design make you more immersed than before. But they also put so many obstacles to stop you from having this fun, now I hear you all scream, "just don't do the diplomat achievement you idiot!" yeah, I usually try not to get it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, its still bad design imo, not using a game mechanic because it's bad doesn't remove it from existence, especially when it's something you literally get by doing two missions the right way, not exactly something you would get out of nowhere. So the faction system isn't that great in this game, and it becomes clearer and clearer as you play the game, because as soon as you get to Pripyat, where no one is your friend, and most mutants and stuff like that are really powerful, you see how much easier it was before, walking around the zone and not having enemies is like playing a mario game without enemies, yeah you could still fall into a hole or die by missing a jump, but the tension of dying is significantly lower and so is the difficutly.
Now, we come to the series' strongsuit, atmosphere, and yeah, I love this game's atmosphere, its probably one of my favorite aspects of this game, seriously the sound design in this game in particular is super good. The zone constantly "whispers" at you, you'll hear echoey pieces of dialogue, monster noises in the distance, gunshots from far off battles, but my favorite of these is definitely the whispers, they are creepy and they flow into the eery background music, making the player feel constantly on edge, and that's a great effect, but unfortunately the whispers get turned off by an achievement and its annoying. I hear a lot of people go on and on about the atmosphere of clear sky but honestly, I never saw it, perhaps it was because I was so focused on the gameplay the atmosphere fell away, it didn't seem that much better than SHoC's and imo gameplay is just as important to atmosphere as visuals and sound design. I know I ragged on the economy breaking artifact exploit but think about it, thats exactly what every stalker does, they sit inside, then they go out and take artifacts to sell them and progress, and really that's the most important thing about that mechanic to me, I feel like a stalker, wandering the zone and acquiring any artifact I find, then selling it and living a looter's lifestyle, its atmosphere building at it's finest. Horror is also really prevalent in this game, especially in pripyat, and in every zone there's a section dedicated to horror, for Zaton, there's two main ones, the first is a completely off the grid encounter, no mission marker, no zone marker, no nothing, small cave in the cliffside houses a controller and the human he killed to take the cave. As you enter a harsh voice speaks to you and tells you to leave, this chilled me hard, but I went in anyway and as soon as I heard the signature high pitch of the controller's influence, I nearly shat my pants and ran. The other moment of horror is the bloodsucker lair, and the specific moment of walking into the room full of 10-12 sleeping bloodsuckers, that also got me good. SHoC was also really good at moments like this, but I felt the general eeriness of the environments in CoP made it beat out SHoC for scariest subsequent playthroughs for me. Obviously nothing can top the labs (scary as all hell, amazing part of SHoC), but for most of SHoC, there wasn't much ambience or real fright for me, but that's just me, many standby CS and SHoC as most atmospheric, me though, I just don't feel it in those games, although I see how they could be perceived that way.
... I'm sorry I can't defend this utter catastrophe, because its, well its truly fucking abysmal, want me to summarize it for you? Major goes to 5 places to look at broken bits of crap surrounded by anomalies, he then does random shit for another dude of questionable voice acting talent, while learning the same shit we already fucking new and slightly expanding our knowledge of how the gauss rifle works and how someone is controlling the monolith (never explained tho cause fuck you that's why), then he leaves the zone, and we play a google slides (its a damn good one though I'll get to that). Seriously that its, we don't get any lore expansion, relative to the other games, and it's sad really, although it doesn't affect my enjoyement much, I kinda just see the helos and main story as an end goal, and the fun is in between, not ahead, that's compared to my playthrough of SHoC or CS, where my endgoal felt much more hyped up while the gameplay deteriorated into non relevance as I struggled to reach the end cutscene. And for me, I enjoy the former style of gameplay. And on that note, some of the story sections are the best parts of the gameplay or interesting moments, when you activate stingray 1, a horde of mutants is attracted, and you engage in a sort of tower defense game for the next minute as monsters rush you, and you use the mines that litter the area to deal with the first mutants. But of course that's not the best, because GSC finally figured out how to do an end section, only took em 2 games. In previous games the end sections lasted for fucking ever, think about SHoC at least, what you can do is basically head back after clearing the scorcher, and then fight through the rest of the game, you know, TWO WHOLE FUCKING AREAS WITH ONE SET OF CRAP, even if you pick up fang's exo and grab a spare gun and 2k ammo, you're still not guaranteed success as you wander through the halls of the CNPP, taking on over 100 different people for the best ending, plus snipers and rpgs. How about CS? Same thing, minus the guns being able to break, because squad leaders in CS could repair your guns, nice job GSC, thanks for removing the worst part of SHoC's ending, the feeling of shredded armor. In CS though, you probably fight through more people almost on your own, you go to red forest, shoot at bandits like you're playing the bridge section in COD:MW2 (the parallels are hilarious) but instead of 5 minutes its 30 minutes of non stop renegades who are supposedly the weakest faction after their collapse, but suddenly they muster up the half the zone to stand you down. And after that you still have to fight through Limansk, then Hospital, then the final bossfight, and that bossfight can also glitch out and become unbeatable but we don't have to talk about that. So from a gameplay perspective, what does CoP do? Well first of all it lets you start it on your own terms (relatively) instead of doing one mission and oops now you're thrust into the end sequences without breaks. The end sequence is also very short and sweet, one final push through monolith territory to leave the zone, its quite triumphant really, and if you took enough people with you in pripyat 1 (which is coincidentally also one of the best story gameplay moments) you have an easier time extracting with all of your men, its sort of the game's final hurrah, where you face off against the zone's toughest, aka snorks and a 30 man group of monolith and around 20 zombies, but its not constant, there's moments in between the action so you get build up to the fight. It was really good, but, ironically it was a bit short for an end sequence, because the whole sequence is track a signal, talk to strelok, then do extraction, maybe a section where you thinned out monolith forces or took out their *cough cough* RPGS AND GAUSS RIFLE USERS, that definitely should have been attacking the choppers as they landed, but I guess they were all doing other stuff I don't know the monolith's ways. This way the section wouldn't have felt as rushed as it did, you're basically just doing stuff and then, poof strelok appears and tells you the answers to all your problems and then you leave, ya need something to pad that out a little bit.
Miscellaneous gripes and great parts of the game
Repairing makes a return, with the upgrading mechanic returning in a much more fleshed out way: you get the three tool boxes and you can upgrade, although some upgrades are unique to the clear sky bro novikov, some are unique to Nitro and some are unique to cardan. This makes it a worthwile venture to get all the tools and the research for novikov so you can get the very best things. I like how you find them, I like the logic behind their placement, its great, and compared to CS's system where you find individual usb drives for the individual upgrades its really good, because CS's system required you to look it up or buy every single stash location from everyone then search every single one to find the correct upgrades. A small gripe I had was the lack of guidance on how to become friends with the different factions, most of the quests have little to do with helping the faction except for the warehouse underground, but that PDA (morgan's pda that starts the quest) is a really stupid idea to have as a quest starter, like most people who do that quest either haven't gone to Yanov yet and won't know that the other factions are even there, or they'll just sell it to Owl without recognizing it's importance, and the main problem is picking it up doesn't start a quest, it doesn't do anything of note, but it directly influences your ability to get strider as a companion, and he's pretty good, so it's annoying that some faction specific quests especially the one that requires you go to a specific location in Yanov and pull a svarog detector to open a spacial anomaly, but if you do that its actually pretty cool quest and gives good world building and lore. Modding is important in the grand scheme of stalker games, they help a lot with bugs, graphical issues, and can even create whole new experiences, so its nice to know that many mods stem from CoP and getting CoP gives you access to cool mods, and it also has the biggest array of mods for itself in general. Another thing, why does strelok show up, why can't the problems be solved without strelok telling us all the answers, why can't we do it. Something that showed up out of nowhere, was the powerpoint presentation that they had replacing the beginning and end of the game, as well as some cutscenes in between. These presentations are actually super cool, the one at the beginning of the game is both voice acted well and has good visuals, it also wraps up the plot of the previous games for us and any new players, its nice, and I like how the ending can show different things depending on the decisions you made and the missions you completed. I love it, a great artstyle a great idea, I want more slideshow stuff in the next game GSC.
By now you're probably saying, "dude you say all the time that CoP is your favorite, but you sure got a lot of shit to say and talk down about it," and yeah, but its because I love it so much I want to criticize it, its important to see flaws and point them out so that they will be remedied, and drawing sever attention to them creates a sense that they need to be fixed, even though, in my opinion they really aren't that bad. And truly its all down to player choice, recently there was a poll about which game was your favorite and it seemed even between SHoC and CoP, with CS trailing behind, which kind of encapsulated my experience with those games. However, I want to stress that it's definitely all down to player choice, these were based on my experiences, and I expect I'll have to fight tooth and nail to defend the atmosphere in this game because I love it, but most dislike it or prefer the other games' atmosphere, and it only a testament to how good and fun the gameplay is that the poorly designed economy didn't ruin it for me, a game where you earn something too fast and without skill or great thinking is usually a big turn off for me, I like a tougher economy, its why I loved Anomaly's economy, and it's also why I'll probably check out Misery after this and do a sort of review on that, because there seems to be a lot of argument around how fun the mod is and I've heard its tougher. In my opinion the story of this game isn't important, nor how the character's react, its about atmosphere, and gameplay, in fact the stories in the other games were not so great themselves, sure CS had a mildly interesting one, but it's more about the lore and the world for a story like this, and the other game's definitely did well in that section. Now here's my final thoughts on the series as a whole:
SHoC - Amazing start to a series, good graphics for its time, a decently made story, great horror sections and bursting with atmosphere in a world that while it looks dated now still immerses the player in its world. That being said I see this series as a sort of 3 stages of a cocaine high, SHoC is the beginning of the high and the weird attention to some things and neglect toward other things is prevalent, for instance the quests all have a day long time limit, that's tight if you want to complete more than one quest at a time
CS - In my opinion this is when the crash from the lack of cocaine kicked in, many bizarre changes to difficulty and overall balancing left the game in an odd state, coupled with the fact that the game was incredibly unstable and buggy at launch (and still today it is) it predictable flopped in the eyes of most fans, however, despite the shit I throw at this game, I recognize it's importance, because the mechanics birthed the refined mechanics of CoP, without CS, CoP would have had horrible mechanics, a bad engine incapable of many things (actually the CS engine was really good, just take a look at the new animations) and unfinished mechanics, in my eyes, CS was not the success I had hoped for, but that doesn't mean it wasn't both important and loved by many fans, and I won't be the one to argue your enjoyement of it, just my own.
CoP - Now, fresh from their cocaine high and crash, GSC pulled together it's ideas pooled from the previous games to create another one, with the most refined mechanics and idea implementation, but I'm a firm believer that mechanics don't make a game good, just their usage in the gameplay, which, to some, lacked the difficulty of the previous games, its like GSC relaxed from it's harsh difficulty to deliver a game that felt more safe, and that's both good, and bad.
Well that's that, to be clear my personal favorite is CoP, if yours is different, say why, don't just rant about how I don't know anything, because I'm already well aware of that, but seriously even if you just like it and can't explain why, great, if a series has one set thing that everyone likes, the devs never innovate, so it's good when people support different games.

2020.09.17 13:50 tatsujb My experience with the September Update (v1.79)

I know there's the main thread. I've already posted there twice, read tons of it.
I need to get this off my chest and be screaming into a little less of a void than that comment section is.
here goes :
I boot up rocket league from my steam around 13h00 +1 UTC September 17 2020
New EULA, what do they want now? my liver? fine "Accept".
start. starts with the interactive intro, vietnam flashbacks begin. Oh boy it looks like I'm about to loose my inventory AGAIN (more on that if I can spare the time).
at the end of it, yaaay! Epic login now mandatory, isn't epic the best gamer's pal that ever existed? -whatever you say champ. outside, linking via web, well don't this look hacked together?
you coulda hired me but had the intern do it. ok sure whatever, *clicks "go to account linking"*....
*clicks again*
ohhh I am LOVING this already.
*clicks again*
some 5 minutes later the new tab in my browser opens, not 3 just the one.
well you know what they say about third time being the charm!
login with epic account. back to RL window,
ok, now it says I should probably pick a "main account". Not exactly as devilish as Microsoft's "yOu hAvE tO gIvE uS aN eMaIl OtHeRwIsE aCoUnT cReAtIoN cAn'T cOmPlEtE", I'll give psyonix/epic that, at least they have the decency to hint that if you don't tell Epic to use the steam account as a base, you'll end up being very VERY mad.
but they could be even more honest yet and spell it out for you instead of making an effort to come up with contrived and intentionally confusing terminology.
never mind that I'm personally wise to those tricks. I know I want steam to be the main if I want an inkling of a chance of keeping my inventory. (my hopes are low for any chance of keeping anything else at this point).
So okay I'm at this screen :
I have to manually visit the link now, that's fine I'm a big boy.
oh goody it's a 404.

oh goody, the twitter says everything been fixed and is nominal now.

oh goody the reddit September patch megathread says it's all good by linking to a blog for issue fixing that's the same damn 404.
this all seems nice and up to date and concerted and not at all aimed at making steam users and everyone not on epic's platform's life hell.
this really is the gamer's best friend Tim Sweeney talked about.
Conclusion: I don't ....really see where you guys [Epic] are going with this constant barrage of shit you throw at rocket league's past community's face, or why.
I mean the "mistakes happen" argument is not happening here, I hope that's baseline. Like you're backed by the biggest grossing company in the world, tencent.
making an in-house test with as many simulated entities doing the account linking steps as there are currently playing rocket league players (possibly many multiples more to really push the stress test) is pocket change at this point.
the money also implies industry veterans, experts.
and most of all "mistakes happen" implies a tolerance for new mistakes but this isn't new. this is the Linux cut update all over again. down to the very fine details.
So yeah, the best I can surmise is that Tim Sweeney sees the current rocket league community as somehow tainted.
and wants to re-create it from scratch. The theory being that the game is good enough that you could remove all the current, players and within a year or two's time have the same player numbers or thereabouts with entirely new players.
I personally don't really see it, I think consumers are as "gamer" as they're ever going to be and there isn't that much "untapped market" left.
And then it also begs the question : why "tainted"?
is the good maintenance of service that steam has had somehow a "bad" thing now?
that has unduly "spoiled" us, and now we're going to ask for "too much" by asking for the same from epic? is that it?
that is nuts.
that is just insane.
I really hope that's not the case and that's not what you guys over at epic believe in.
in anycase this past year with rocket league has been godawful at making your case that steam is evil while epic is the champion of gamers.
honestly I couldn't care less which fucking big daddy I have. I already sign your fucking EULAs without reading, I just wanna play my fucking game. you guys for some reason find that to be a problem.
I gotta ask wtf? is this really the impression you wanna give?

2020.09.14 20:55 Groot_man Help building an upgrade from an old PC.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Mostly CSGO and Path of Exile, with the option to play newer gen games, as well as possibly stream.
My current rig runs CSGO pretty well (although could be better), however Path of Exile becomes impossible to play when using AoE skills on big packs of mobs.
Given the nature of Path of Exile, being able to run numerous browser tabs in conjunction is also a necessity.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$700-$900 (₪2,500-₪3,000 on the site linked below).
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
This site is sort of like our local pcpartpicker / retailer, so building the PC directly on this site is most convenient, because then you can realistically see which parts are available and how much they cost.
Just click on the US flag to the left of the search bar to change it into English, and then scroll down to the list of components wherein you'll be able to select all the parts.
Intel components
AMD components
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I'm all set for all the peripherals, only the tower is necessary.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I have very little knowledge on the matter, so presumably not.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Strong CPU for CSGO
Good cooling, as it gets very hot in my country during the summer.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Wired and WiFi.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preference.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No need.
Extra info or particulars:
I bought my current PC in 2014, and whilst it's held up well, I figure it's time for an upgrade.
My current specs are:
GeForce GTX 660
Intel i5-4460 @ 3.20GHz
8 GB RAM (G.Skill Aegis 4 GB x 2, DDR3)
Thanks very much for all assistance!

2020.09.10 08:21 UNSCFLEETCOM Character Spotlight: HMS Devastation(N3 class Battleship).

So this is a new format for getting my ship ideas out there instead of having stories with bits and pieces of information spread out. I will still write those stories; this is just a compressed overview of the characters, mainly because these usually aren’t real ships usually being PR. So people get confused at who exactly they are since if they were to google them it would come up with their previous iterations and I tend not to put their classes in the story due to it not really mattering in the storyline plus the characters should already know their class anyway. I won’t be giving too many spoilers for stuff coming but there will be for already released stuff. These are my sources for their designs, I will be doing most of them with a select few for the Lions:
-N3 class Battleship-
HMS Devastation.
First generation PR(In story, not PR1. She was part of the first wave built including Fisher, Monarch, Conqueror, Thunderer, Incomparable(She is technically 1.5 you can guess which one of these ships kept nagging Montrose to build her) and Saint Lawrence. Second generation PRs are Malta, Gibraltar, Africa, New Zealand, Audacious, Irresistible and Habakkuk.)
Specifications.(These are in more detail in the sources)
3x3 18”/45 calibre guns
8x2 6”guns
I’ve left out her tertiary and AA guns out as they would be changed with her supposed build date and Azur Lane only cares about base armament for pics and new equipment. How new would pom poms and single 120mm guns be anyway?(Although she was planned to have Ten barreled pom poms so do with that as you will)
With a 15” inch belt thinning over the machinery like on Vanguard and Nelson.
She makes about 23 knots just like her design descendant Nelson.

“Master, could you please stop calling me your angel? I know my crest has an angel on it that does not mean I am one. It’s really embarrassing… What? No I don’t have some secret ability lying around like Vanguard’s spears, I’m just next to useless... Ah yes I do say that but Laura did show me it in the bible and we both thought it sounded cool, okay.” One of her idle lines probably.
“There’s really a specific form for that?” Another idle line probably. (She has a tendency to watch what Montrose is doing over his shoulder)

A tall buxom woman with long brown hair (Typically in a French braid) and darkish grey eyes (Described by Montrose as the most colourful and vibrant grey that he’s ever seen). Typically wears a crimson gambeson (A thick padded jacket used as armour in the medieval era) and crimson cloak with a white long sleeve blouse underneath both, a knee length darkish grey pleated skirt and black pantyhose(Or sheer tights depending on where you come from). There is a reason she wears so much red. In her early life she was never anything special, just another rank and file soldier of the empire. Hence the red. She is literally a redcoat, she fought in Baltimore during the war of 1812. Considering her fairly close relationship with the modest Saint Lawrence and never really being all that important(Well she was the first mastless ocean going capital ship with the guns not in the hull when she got her own class, making an important step in technology and arguably the first battleship) so she doesn’t dress too flashy like say Monarch or KGV or Hood. Her claymore is about her height so pretty long.
Bit of a discrepancy here if she were to be in game she could appear in either her plate armour or without (I would prefer without armour). This is mainly due to the armour being made after her training within my stories by Laura and that she doesn’t wear it in combat due to the armour being not painted or lacquered leading to rust, the same goes with her Claymore being a replacement for her longsword which she broke in an incident a few weeks after summoning. But the Claymore is a very important part of her identity so that’s staying. (Yes, I pay attention to such details and growth in my stories. Jutland’s series just happens something like a year after Laura’s fear coming to light, hence why she is described without armour in the latter because how can Vanguard think to hit her in the torso with a sabre if she’s wearing plate?)
She tends to come across as a bit intimidating and imposing at first, but once you spend a little time talking to or spending a bit of time around her you start to notice that her almost authoritative and serious nature is a facade. She is secretly a relatively shy, naive and caring girl, even if Montrose doesn’t see it that often and it tends to come across to him as her giving him a bit of a cold shoulder. She has a fairly deep voice, best described as velvety and often insecure in tone.
She is known to get quite easily flustered. Also she is rather ticklish, Vanguard started tickling her to get submission holds on her during spars. She hates it. She finds it rather cold in Scapa flow, unlike the abominable snow woman Laura. It’s said a bit but she does have a bit of a way with the younger girls, they just seem to listen to her. I guess you could compare her to Yamato but instead she’s kept away from the fighting because she lacks the ability rather than being too valuable to lose, not that she isn’t valuable.
There would be a significant change in character should she be in game since in story she finds her calling, while in game she would act as she did between her summoning and becoming a guard. I haven’t covered this yet as this would take place before Saint Lawrence’s fear coming to light. To put what happens during this period quickly. Once she starts getting into the swing of things and going through the training program, she starts to realise just how behind her capabilities are compared to the rest of the ships alongside her. Then she starts questioning her existence and it obviously starts to go downhill, after some rather sombre talks with Montrose it was decided to make her one of his guards. Yes, I do realise she’s quite similar to Monarch issue wise although it is for different reasons(Monarch is not only older name wise she has also had more hulls, Devastation is very young and inexperienced for a Royal navy Capital ship which is where her ‘being forgotten’ issues stir from when you consider her history. The only capital ship that I can think of that is younger than her name wise is Saint Lawrence).
Now about her being forgotten issue. So when she first arrived there was one face she immediately recognised(She doesn’t know many capital ships due to what I said in the above paragraph) her now ex-sister Thunderer. They weren’t all that close but upon questioning her she didn’t remember her at all. I will write about this in full one day as it is very interesting. It was eventually resolved with her rejection from frontline service, well her hull was rejected not from any fault of her own. This all really started with an overheard conversation of what makes Royal Navy ships strong, one of the obvious answers was that their strength comes with age(Some ships are 400 years old like Vanguard and Dreadnought and have had more than 10 hulls to their name. They were referring to the fact that such ships had an inherent grit and hardiness to them as well as mastering their Crests (Crests while part of Royal Navy heraldry tradition can also grant special powers like Warspite’s marksmanship or Vanguard’s light spears)).
“They’re not running away? Those poor brave fools” Battle start line. (Really just a small joke about her speed because literally everything other than the Nelsons, Monitors and the Colorados could outrun her)
“Target range found, calculations complete. I guess this angel must smite thee down. May God have mercy on your souls as my second Trumpets roar” Her salvo firing line. (Reference to her crest which is an angel descending blowing a horn with a flaming sword in the other hand. Also the second trumpet refers to the ‘seven trumpets’(Google it, sounds metal as fuck) ‘With the sounding of the second trumpet, something described as "a great mountain burning with fire" plunges into the sea and turns a third of the oceans to blood. Soon after, a third of all sea life and a third of all ships will be destroyed.’)
These are just examples of what they could be, not completely hard set on them so they can be changed.
-England’s glory-
When firing a salvo unleashes a powerful barrage. Opponents hit by the barrage will have a 80% chance to be set alight for 30 seconds. (Reference to the old Devastation appearing on England’s glory matchboxes, also the flaming sword and the trumpet on her crest)
-Long range engagement-
Enemy battleships, battlecruisers and monitors do 60% less damage to the backline but with a decrease of accuracy for both sides battleships, battlecruisers and monitors. This effect decreases over the course of the battle being cancelled out after a minute. (This is to simulate rangefinding that would happen at the start of the battle realistically also possibly making her a counter to battleship and battlecruiser backlines in pvp)
-Raphael’s blessing-
When health falls below 10% heals 30% of max hp (This can only happen once per mission not per battle). When a teammate does not take damage for 15 seconds heals them for 1% of max hp.(This is a reference to her crest and the fact that she looks shockingly close to a depiction of Raphael)
Creators note.
She out of all my creations so far has had the longest development cycle and growth, I continue to impress myself with the amount of lucky bullshit I put in that actually worked in the end. So her story begins under a different name after deciding that the four patron saints of the UK would be hard and kind of boring. Northumbria. This was the name I initially gave Saint Lawrence’s N3 class sister while she was developing in my mind and mainly because of a song I found, but I soon found the name to be rather lacking. Wanting to continue with the theme of ships names that were discontinued and participated in the war of 1812 I searched far and wide. Then I found her. The Battle of Baltimore. The battle that gave the United States it’s anthem. Fighting alongside Erebus and Terror in the same role. HMS Devastation.
Her name at first sounded a bit edgy and cringy, sounded like a 14 year old creating the best class of overpowered design ships ever or an OC ship or something(Probably what you are thinking of me and her reading this right now). But once I started going through her service record, she started to mellow and form in my mind like a fine wine. That’s when my empathy started kicking in. I truly started feeling bad for her. She had served admirably then became the arguably first step towards the battleships in the world, although her career as a mastless oceangoing ironclad was rather boring and tame. At least compared to her unlucky sister Thunderer who had multiple accidents killing dozens and even had the future king George the fifth serve aboard her for a year. Dev was almost forgotten, kind of abandoned by the navy she served. Never seeing another hull with her name up to today. Why on earth does Thunderer get carried on but not her?
I could not let such an injustice stand. There’s probably no way I could convince the royal navy to build her, so I shall do this my way.
So my initial mental picture of her was a smol redcoat with an arty gun(When she was in her first hull) and she obviously grew up to look similar to the other battleships in this N3 hull. With her inability to fight in the post war naval climate, she began to get more closely associated with being some sort of secretary to Montrose. Then the guards were formed. Devastation and Vanguard, a rather poetic combination. A ship who cannot fight effectively due to her design and a ship who believed herself to be cursed with bad luck, to be undeserving of such a hull. Perfect opposites. Dev started to become sort of a knight in shining armour sort of character. Then she started mixing into a bit of a guardian angel character. I don’t know where this train of thought initially came from, but I would soon find it eerily perfect.
I realised that due to being a commissioned warship she had a crest. An angel descending with a flaming sword and trumpet(This is from her real previous hull not something I made up). The trumpet or as I found out to be a Woe Trumpet, is a symbol of destruction and would call forth the rapture. I found the description of the second trumpet oddly naval based. She suddenly had a lot of mystery to her, due to being so young she hasn’t unlocked the potential of her crest. What is the power that her crest would give her? Things that I had just added to her without references suddenly linked up with references that I had never seen before. Things were getting out of hand. Then the final reference happened. The Archangel Raphael, the healer.
Raphael is also known as Israfil in islam as the blower of the trumpet. Things were adding up way too fast. Then I found this picture.,_St_John's_Church,_Warminster,_Wiltshire.jpg
I got a chill up my spine. There’s no way I could have seen this before I’m not religious, never been to a church and I don’t live in England. I took a couple days break. It felt like I had become the reader and not the writer as this had all unfolded. My innate curiosity wanted to know. Then I realised nothing was going to happen without me doing anything so I should probably get back to work. I’m not going crazy am I? I formalised everything so far into this. She’s pretty much finished, although her story continues to evolve and play in my serieses. A bit of a teaser for what is to come, not like the songs that I use for writing her below are a dead give away. But she starts to have strange feelings that she’s never felt before, alas it goes against everything she’s had ingrained into her for the past two years. Conflicted and forbidden, she doesn’t really know what to do.
These are the songs I typically use for writing her.
This is where her first name came from, Northumbria. I also generally use it for any large ships, especially British ones now.

Cerealkillerz - Julian Bieder - German - 8.5 / 10
Ironically, this straightforward mix of Roleplay and Hack n Slay still holds up strong today. The element that might seem apalling to hardcore RPG-Fans is the same element that saved it from getting irrelevant - easy accessibility! Combined with the motivating story it is still as fun to play in the present as it was back then.
Cultured Vultures - Jimmy Donnellan - 7.5 / 10
Kingdoms Of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is less of a wholesale remaster and more of a reminder of the original's quality outside the hype bubble and separated from its controversies. With this second chance, Amalur stands on its own as a weird and often wonderful action RPG.
Digitally Downloaded - Matt Sainsbury - 4.5 / 5 stars
This "Re-Reckoning" doesn't do anything more than test the waters for a potential future for the franchise, but I do think it deserves one. It has been a real pleasure to have the opportunity to re-experience this game.
DualShockers - Scott White - 8 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur is still a damn fun game to play in 2020, jankiness, and all. Galavanting across the wilds, exploring caves, and helping (and murdering), the townsfolk never stopped being fun, and I was always looking forward to what new piece of gear or fight I would get into next.
GameSkinny - David Jagneaux - 9 / 10 stars
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning changes little from its original release because it doesn't need to. This is immediately one of the best RPGs you can play this entire generation.
GameSpace - Catherine Daro - 6 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning provides the best possible way for old fans and new adventurers alike to check out the world of Amalur. However, before purchasing the game you have to know what you are getting for you money - an HD version of highly polished 2012 game with or without an upcoming DLC depending on your edition.
Quality of life, UI and many other aspects of the game fit the time of its original release. If you are not put off by rough around the edges gameplay, the world of Amalur awaits!
GameWatcher - Robert Honaker - 6 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur was one of the most underrated games of the previous decade and its return will make that pretty clear to some players. However, the remastering of this borderline classic is hamstrung by a 2012 inventory and menu system, a 2012 user interface, and 2012 icons and health bar.
GamingBolt - Shubhankar Parijat - 7 / 10
If you've never played this game before, or if you want to dive back into it but don't have access to an older copy, Re-Reckoning is easy to recommend- but only because the game itself is as good as it is. If you were hoping for an impressive visual upgrade, this isn't it, and those who already have access to a copy of the original game should probably save their money.
God is a Geek - Mick Fraser - 8.5 / 10
It may not be the most important remake of the year, but Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a gorgeous, dense, and charming adventure.
Hobby Consolas - Álvaro Alonso - Spanish - 80 / 100
A notable remastered work, especially when you take into account the original game's limitations, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a great way to discover this universe and a well earned second chance for a game that was unfairly forgotten.
IGN - Jon Ryan - 6 / 10
Re-Reckoning is a reminder of what made the original great in 2012, but mostly a testament to how far we've come since.
IGN Italy - Andrea Giongiani - Italian - 8 / 10
A fairly easy and light RPG experience. Kingdoms of Amalur is a game that rewards the player with new gadgets and powers and tries to be a nice, laid back experience.
Kakuchopurei - Jonathan Leo - 80 / 100
You’d be hard-pressed to find a 30-to-60 hour RPG with a lot of meat & teeth in its gameplay & story for just US$40.
Merlin'in Kazanı - Samet Basri Taşlı - Turkish - 68 / 100
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a good game with a strong storyline, fluid combat system, and advanced character customization. While it's not a perfect remaster, it's a good option for players who haven't played before and for those looking to experience it on next-generation consoles.
Nexus - Andrew Logue - 7 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning still plays much the way it did in 2012 – ambitious in scope but lacking in depth. You may not be compelled to see it through to the end, but you’ll enjoy most of the time spent with it.
PlayStation Universe - Garri Bagdasarov - 8 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is just as fun as it was eight years ago. Though the game didn't get any updates to its inventory management system or the criminally long load times, the combat is still great and the vast world is a blast to explore.
RedTieGuy - Basil Frank - 7.5 / 10
Re-Recking is a solid experience for any RPG fan. - Táňa Matúšová - Slovak - 8.5 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning balances difficulty issues and shows it's magical world in 4K. The "MMORPG for introverts" is now available for current consoles, but PC players might stick to their copies of the original game.
Saving Content - Scott Ellison II - 4 / 5 stars
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a weird release. It doesn’t have any substantial improvements compared to the original, and maybe on PC there’s going to be less of difference than for consoles. So if you have the original on PC, there’s basically little reason to upgrade except to play the upcoming Fatesworn expansion next year. That said, if you’ve never experienced this game, now’s a great time. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning really holds up as a great RPG filled to the brim with content, and its build-your-own class system remains a highlight, backed with some really fun combat. Don’t miss out on one of 2012’s best games now.
Sirus Gaming - Rhett Roxl - 8 / 10
Whether you’re a fan of the original game or you haven’t played that and are just planning to explore a new open-world RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is a must-try for its fun combat, exploration, interesting narrative, and the wide experience it provides. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning may not be that compelling as a remastered work, but what it already is is quite compelling enough.
Spaziogames - Adriano Di Medio - Italian - 7.9 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is one of those rare cases which a remastered has got its sense out of commercial reasons. A fine tuned narrative background plays well with a stylish system and shining environments, with some good ideas both on scenography and characters. If you will have the will to overcome a game structure that directly comes from 2012, you can rediscover a very underrated game. Let's just hope they will fix its technical issues.
TechRaptor - Tyler Chancey - 6.5 / 10
Divorced from its original chaotic development, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning feels like a remix of old gaming trends that are pleasant, if a bit generic.
The Games Machine - Erica Mura - Italian - 8.2 / 10
If even the original game wasn't able to take that extra step and stand out among its competition, you shouldn't expect that its remastered version will be able to accomplish this task. Nevertheless, Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning remains enjoyable despite its age. It is a "vintage" game, capable of entertaining for hours (and hours and hours and hours) with its classic fantasy story full of fantastic creatures, epic legends and fairy lands.
TheSixthAxis - Aran Suddi - 7 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is a good solid remaster, just don't expect much to have changed compared to the original. The world is as magical fantasy as you could get, and it really does draw you in, but some technical issues and a number of repetitive quests can dull the otherwise colourful experience.
Wccftech - Francesco De Meo - 8 / 10
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning finally gives a second chance to one of the best role-playing games released in the previous console generation, making the gameplay even better with select balance tweaks that increase the challenge level and make it easier to engage with side content. Despite some issues and a dated gameplay design, the game's battle system, great writing and extremely deep lore make Re-Reckoning a game that most role-playing game fans will enjoy. Especially if they like juggling enemies to death.

IC Teaser:
My story begins in the inauspicious year of 2023, late one night in the kitchen behind my grandfather’s import shop in the city of Colombo, Sri-Lanka. My father, a thirteen year old boy then, swept the leftover cuttings from my grandmother’s attached noodle shop out into the alleyway. All the while pretending he did not understand his family's native tongue enough to eavesdrop on my grandfather and his friends as they spoke Mandarin.
The Blue Monkey Society had always been small, but in those days the tong hardly existed. My grandfather and his friends pooled their resources to purchase opium, from connections in Hong-Kong and smuggled in alone with the monthly shipments from China.
When my grandfather discovered that one of his inner circle was related to the owner of a nearby glue factory, he struck a deal to use the unused stables as gambling parlors. Eventually when the social upheavals in that country brought combat drugs and the new gangs that used them to the han neighborhoods in Colombo, my eldest uncle along with my great aunt and her husband would track them down, and kill them in their beds.
They were small back then, they all had real jobs, worked long hours, and raised families. Most of them spoke better Shingal and English than they did Mandarin as the world became more and more dangerous they only had to rely on stealth and numbers for any chance of survival when it came to bloodshed. That is, at least, until that night.
I’ve heard the story of what happened next, many times, and each account differs in some way from the first. But my grandmother’s version has always been my favorite, so it is the one I will tell you;
My father had just run out of chores to pretend to do,my grandmother realized that his lingering meant he could understand. She is at least as ruthless as my grandfather, so I believe her when she tells me it was not for a concern that exposure to matters such as opium smuggling and collecting bounties would somehow bother the child, but rather that she did not trust one so young with the secrets of her husband's affairs. And so she moved to take my father by the hand out of the kitchen to the room where he and my grandparents slept.
She stepped into the hallway of the very same building where I was raised; the one that now leads from the old kitchens to the armory. There, what she describes–even now–as a hideous monster with a hatchet confronted her. One of the many orks who had been driven out of the main region of city had begun to take refuge there he had been sent by one of their leaders to kill her and my father in retaliation for my grandfather's habit of selling the goblinized with the more adulterated heroin in his supply, a practice born out of appreciation for their robust physiology, or so I have been told.
Thankfully, the young man who looked at my grandmother like a monster, had more metahumanity than she gave him credit for, or at else I would not be here. When presented with the option to slaughter an unarmed woman and her child, he must have decided that he would rather participate as an observer than as the hatchetman. And so he took my grandmother and father hostage, leading them back out into the kitchen where the allies held up what was then the eternity of my Blue Monkey Triad with a semi-automatic shotgun and a battered TMP.
My great-aunt was the first to try for the machine pistol she kept on her at all times. She still has the cyber-skull to show for it. But before another of my kin could fall, my grandfather began radiating an otherworldly light my grandmother describes now as like a sunset the color of a butane torch’s flame, as he did his visage took on the mask of a monkey before he sent the one who had just blasted his sister flying through a wall with a single open-handed fist.
They had all heard of the awakening by then, of course. Even then they all told stories of the wu-jen and kung-fu masters back in the homeland, and a few had even received magical healing or seen magicians perform on stage or in the streets. But nothing like that, not up close.
A heartbeat later my darkness swelled in my father's young eyes, suspending his captor on the ceiling with nothing more than a pitiless gaze. The moment the edge of the axe left my grandmother’s neck she rose up from where she had been made to kneel for execution, running up the wall with ease, and dancing into the aire, spinning upright as she conjured a blue fire about her fingers and sent it cascading towards the second gunman who fled out into the street only to perish there from the flames.
As I said before, the accounts of what my family calls The Night Of The Blue Monkey, all differ from one another. The matter of what befell of the ork chose not to simply cut down my grandmother on sight is easily the greatest source of contention. But I am telling my Grandmother’s story, so I will give you her version of what he did next…
He pissed himself, cast aside his hatchet, and begged for his life. My grandfather chose to return the man’s act of mercy with one of his own, and the ork spent the rest of his life, working for my grandfather. She tells me he helped to carry the heavy barrels and crates from the old pier in the back down the stairs in the storeroom for years until one night he got drunk and drowned by accident. I don’t think I completely believe her on this matter, but still, who can blame an old woman for telling amusing lies?

2020.08.29 15:30 BasedBaller The Hidden Treatment for COVID: Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, and (possibly) Zinc

So I really tried to get all the reliable information I could with this first post, mainly by researching primary articles about how effective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), Zinc, and Azithromycin (AZ) are in fighting the current strain of coronavirus and their mechanisms in general. Basically, all three positively contribute to the body’s ability to fight COVID infection in vitro. This means that cells of various types, growing in a flask, show increased resistance to viral infection when exposed to either HCQ, Zn, or AZ. Many clinical studies, which can be found at, prove that it is similarly effective in people and there is one that shows it’s safer than remdesivir. I detailed the papers with the largest study populations. Although I could only find one trial with zinc, I will make the case that Zinc may help. I’m providing background information, as well, so if this subject ever comes up in conversation you will have scientific evidence to back up your claims.
HCQ is well known to reduce inflammation and trigger an anti-viral immune response (1, 2). Its anti-inflammatory properties are powerful enough to make it a standard prescription for inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and LUPUS (1). Controlling this inflammation is critical in high risk COVID patients as it can progress into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and further lead to organ damage (3, 4). This made scientists keen on trying this for COVID, especially since previous studies have shown that it helps alleviate symptoms of Zika, Ebola, and Chile virus infections (5). But what kind of antiviral properties does it have? Detailed research revealed HCQ works to inhibit every part of the viral life cycle. It tightly binds to cell surface components necessary for the virus to enter the cell, namely the ACE2 receptor (which COVID binds to) (6). It also disrupts processing of the ACE2 receptor, such that pieces of the protein needed for viral attachment are never added to the protein structure (2). Furthermore, it reduces the acidity of cell organelles that destroy the viral capsid, thus preventing the release of virus’s genetic material and replication proteins into the cell (2, 7). Another key property of HCQ reveals itself when zinc enters the picture. HCQ is an ionophore; a compound that binds ions (1) (big surprise there). The ion of key concern is zinc (Zn +2), a micronutrient critical for proper functioning of the immune system (8). It is important to review HCQ’s safety before discussing zinc, as that is another part of the contention regarding this drug.
At proper doses HCQ has minimal side effects, usually only affecting the GI tract (7), though there are legitimate concerns as high doses can cause cardiac abnormalities (9, 10). Immediate cardiac effects are not likely, however, as mostly patients on long term regimens must worry about complications. Overdoses with HCQ are also six times more likely to cause death than other drugs. This, combined with the fact that different forms of the drug have varying amounts of active HCQ per gram, makes designing standardized trials for HCQ difficult (10, 11). In fact, the first round of clinical tests (all of which failed to prove HCQ treatment affected outcomes in COVID patients) did not take into account the amount of active drug patients received. Add in highly publicized overdoses and you can understand why feelings toward the drug were tumultuous at best. What brought negative perceptions of the drug to head was a study that showed HCQ treatments had astonishingly deadly effects on cardiac health (12). The catch? The data from this study was completely fabricated. Indeed, 201 scientists signed an open letter to The Lancet (a medical journal) stating the results were highly suspect. Alas, Governments around the globe immediately ceased all programs looking into HCQ as a medication for COVID. This is despite a study of 956,000 rheumatoid arthritis patients indicating that HCQ produced negative cardiac effects in very few patients in the short term (<30 days) was published barely more than a week later. Pairing it with Azithromycin or given at excessively high doses did increase cardiac-related mortality in the long term due to both of the drugs having negative effects on the heart. Long term effects are due to the ease at which HCQ accumulates in the body (13, 14). Nevertheless, all public interest in HCQ fell off.
Azithromycin, a popular antibiotic, also has anti-inflammatory and antiviral properties. In fact, it complements HCQ by decreasing the presence of different inflammatory molecules. Together, they reduce the levels of every inflammatory marker increased in severe COVID infections (5). AZ has already gained attention as a possible treatment of the deadly inflammatory disease chronic fibrosing interstitial pneumonia (16). Aside from inflammation, COVID also decreases the body’s ability to produce any meaningful antiviral immune response including the mechanisms required for long term immunity (17). AZ might combat this by stimulating the same immune response COVID inhibits, while HCQ slightly accentuates this effect. This indicates the possible need for both due to their complementary behavior (18, 19). AZ also distributes through the body quite easily and uniformly, which might help AZ directly interfere with the all of the effects of COVID, as opposed to just blocking viral replication and lung inflammation (15).
Research into HCQ and AZ continued despite the topic only receiving negative attention from the media. The results, while not astounding, indicate that HCQ has the ability to reduce deaths due to COVID-19. A retrospective study (one that analyzes past data) sorted through 2,541 patient files and found that patients taking HCQ or HCQ and AZ had a statistically significant increase in survivorship (26.4% passed with no drug, 20.1% passed taking HCQ + AZ, 18.1% passed taking HCQ). The p-value, the most widely accepted way of measuring statistical significance, was <0.001 (20). This means the results had a <0.1% chance of occurring randomly. For reference, a p-value of <0.05 is considered significant in the US. Another study investigating predictors of COVID outcomes incidentally found treatment with HCQ and AZ produced a lower mortality rate (14.7% with HCQ and 29.2% without) (21). Another retrospective study of 1,645 patients found treatment with either Prednisone (a powerful anti-inflammatory) and HCQ had similarly positive outcomes (22). A critical study of 3,737 patients showed HCQ-AZ combination treatment for more than 3 days both had a significantly positive effect on prognosis, with 10% of treated people testing positive after ten days vs 20% in the not treated group. More importantly, it demonstrated that the HCQ-AZ combination has a ten times lower rate of discontinuation due to treatment-related complications than remdesivir (3). I would be remiss, however, if I left out that ECG’s for 25% patients withdrawn due to HCQ-AZ complications (3 out of 12) had a high possibility of sudden death to due irregular heart rhythm. Another study indicated increased heart complications in patients with HCQ and AZ, however the authors admit further statistical analysis could render these findings not significant (23). If you read this article you will also find it says HCQ and AZ have no positive influence on COVID recovery. The counter point is that no aspect of this study was controlled (e.g. following up with discharged patients, time of treatment relative to presumed infection/presentation of symptoms). The levels of previously described inflammatory molecules were also not taken into account, so for all we know it might have started to work but was introduced too late to affect outcomes (23). Studies are still being released as of this writing, including a meta-analysis (statistical analysis of multiple independent studies) backing the safety and effectiveness of HCQ. I highly suggest that we stay up to date on the current findings to further our knowledge base on the subject.
Afterword: Zinc
As mentioned previously, only one study to date investigated the ability of zinc to compound with HCQ to treat patients. While it only significantly decreased mortality in standard care patients (as opposed to ICU patients), data demonstrated a p-value of 0.002 (24). Major functions of the immune system rely on zinc. This ranges from maintaining healthy lymph cells, which provide important growth signals to immune cells, to the development of immune cells and their differentiation into various subtypes (25). Immune systems deficient in zinc are slow to react to infections and react inefficiently as a result. Clinical findings show people with zinc deficiencies are at a greater risk for infection, autoimmune disease, and cancer (4). Zinc deficiency also significantly increases baseline levels of inflammation (26) and has been shown to increase the likelihood of ventilator related injury(27). The presence of zinc within cells, on the other hand, inhibits damaging inflammation. Zinc also upregulates immune signals requires for a strong anti-viral response (28). If that wasn’t enough, zinc also acts specifically on viral proteins. It inhibits the function of RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, an enzyme required for viral genetic material to replicate (12, 29). In addition, increased zinc cellular zinc paradoxically triggers the production of additional natural ionophores. These ionophores snatch vital ions away from viral proteins (30, 31). Despite only one study investigating zinc, it is more than likely that zinc and HCQ might have some combined benefit based on previous in vitro and clinical findings.
